1) I could over emphasize the intelligence of a person receiving a baccalaureate degree. I could eliminate all excess sentences which would focus more on the topic rather than rambling on just about the word intelligence.
(looking up facts to help over emphasize the intelligence of a person receiving a baccalaureate degree.) Too many times does the typical english paper ramble on about excess sentences so that the person can add a few extra lines to the length.
2) Original: "However, when it comes to achieving an actual degree, one is expected to have a certain degree of intelligence."
Remake: "However, when it comes to achieving or gaining an actual baccalaureate degree, one is expected to have a certain degree of intelligence which could be presented in different aspects."
3) Original: "Being intelligent can mean many different things to different people and also bring up many questions such as what is that person intelligent in. Intelligent as defined by Merriam Webster means “Having or indicating a high satisfactory degree of intelligence and mental capacity”. Whereas my definition of the word intelligent is one who is thoroughly knowledged in his or her specific area. One who may seem intelligent to me may not necessarily seem intelligent to someone else based on the differences in our definitions."

Whereas my definition of the word intelligent is one who is thoroughly knowledged in his or her specific area. One who may seem intelligent to me may not necessarily seem intelligent to someone else based on the differences in our definitions. However, in today's institutes of education, more and more students are being educated in all amounts of all fields instead of large amounts of one field. This of course, in agreement with the Baccalaureate Degree, will add to the consensus that people do not have to specialize in one specific area in order to attain the degree. This is an example that the public has too much information in general studies and not enough education to help them become active contributors to the world."
4) Only rebuttal to be entered into next draft:
Coming from the college student who has no specific career choice, the Baccalaureate Degree is the easiest thing to obtain. Basically, all that is required is to schedule classes for a General Studies degree and follow the required classes, which is basically core classes and extracurriculars. Most of these classes allow you to pass just by attending the class. For this reason, high levels of intelligence are not required to attain a Baccalaureate Degree, only the willpower to attend the classes

My language or yours?
1)
a. I have never been expected, but I have been in situation when I attended Lee High that I was not forced into speaking/learning Spanish but it definitely helped. I have many friends who speak Spanish, French, African, at home and come to school being expected to know and speak English fluently.
b. You could say that speaking one language at home and one at school but depending on where your job is you may need to speak another language. Not necessarily English or Spanish, but many other options as well.
c. I believe "belonging" will be important in my career choice because I am going into management and there I will meet many people. I feel I wont be belonging to one language but many different ones. Like owning a house but having many to stay in for periods of time.
2)
a. Families are constantly changing through life. Not just due to age or family issues but due to life. Nothing can be obtained in life without some kind of sacrifice.
b. Yes, it is possible. You could go to an primarily English speaking college and also enter a primarily speaking English work force afterwards. Same applies for other languages as well.
c. I dont think that he thinks it is worth it. Family always comes first no matter what the situation is and once you've lost your family you've lost everything.

The French Language: The Heart of Louisiana
1)
A) Who: Shes speaking about and for the Cajun French of Louisiana. (Acadian people)
B)What: The french language is deeply rooted in the Louisiana history.
C)When: From the beginning of Louisiana's existence til now but even now its very rare among the younger people.
D)Where: Primarily I think shes referring to Acadiana but it could also be argued that shes talking about all of Louisiana.
E)Why: She thinks that the French Language is what makes Louisiana so special and shes trying to get people tp recognize that.
2)
Sentence one : M She is giving the main idea.
Sentence two : E She is giving an example.
Sentence three : A She is analyzing her example
Sentence four : A She is explaining her example in terms of someone else.
Sentence five : E She uses her example and pretty much proves her point with the words of someone else.
Sentence six : A She explains why her main point is a benefit in society
Sentence seven : E She uses a french foreigner to get her point across that even with no english background you can still manage in acadiana.
Sentence eight : E She explains how after he came to Lafayette and knew no english wasnt that tough
Sentence nine : A She tells how there are many people who speak french and helped him around school.
Sentence ten : L She links all of her main ideas and examples to one another and to the next sentence.
Personally I think it works pretty well for the audience. She looks at all aspects of the argument and still gets her point across effectively. I do not think I would change anything about the way she laid it out.

1) Rich is correct about responsibility to yourself. You should never let anyone talk or think for you, no matter woman, man, and any other sub under that. You should always strive for the best no matter the situation. Even for lower income families that could just collect welfare and make it by, why "just make it by"? You should always strive to go farther and do better in life because you never know what tomorrow could bring. You take the easy road, get married, have a kid, life a simple life barely getting by, or you could go that extra distance and wait to start the family, "claim" that higher education, "claim" that higher paying job, then find the person that is right for you.
2) I think shes saying some teachers don't really judge due to ethnicity, but definitely show higher intellectual expectancy for those students, along with the students that are lower income bracket, and even athletes. The students that really have something to work towards in their lives. I believe that once a student makes that impression on the teacher that he/she doesnt want to be there anymore the teacher keeps that attitude going and lowers the expectancy of that student where as students that want to be there, want the knowledge, and want to do something with themselves get a much more higher expectancy from the teacher. Most students agree to go to services provided by the school, ex. tutoring, writing services, computer labs, etc. Where as teachers agree to discuss deeper on a topic if a student doesnt understand or if the class as an entirety shows high interest, along with tutoring after school, etc. The goal is for everyone to claim their education rightfully instead of just taking the easy way out. The concern is that no matter the income bracket, athlete, ethnicity, etc. all students should be treated equally.

Discussion Question Three
1) I usually look over any assignment a teacher provides me at least twice before I begin working on it. While working on it I usually glance back over it two or three times to make sure I'm staying on topic with the assignment. Once I'm done with the first draft I thoroughly read over it once to just critique my self and do a quick check for grammar issues. One benefit I've found from looking over the draft after its done is that I can sometimes catch fragments or run-on sentences myself before I even consider letting someone else look over it for me.
2) You could have an expert on the topic you are trying to argue come and read and critique your paper for you. Let you know what he agrees with and what he disagrees with on your paper, maybe even give you some personal experience to work with.
3) I think the most useful tidbit of information in that section is the area at the beginning where they are talking about "Do not write a summary unless your professor directly asks you to summarize", Which is what I have always had trouble understanding and this helped me further understand it but I would still like to go over it in class.
4) From what I understood the rubrics show all three characteristics are the same.

A response to "A homemade education" By Malcom X
1) Some of the values implied when the word homemade is brought up is old fashioned, or I see it as a way of saying "The way I like it done". Somethings you get from the store can indeed be better than homemade things because people do it for their profession and sell it to consumers, but if your grandma makes a homemade pie or cake or any other delicate that you have grown up liking then it will be hard if not impossible for anyone to ever be able to recreate that. Then again some homemade things may not be as good as a store bought thing, for instance, a refrigerator, given the right pieces and parts you could potentially create your own refrigerator, but will it be as good as that pre-made one that you can buy at lowes? The one that is metallic, with the built in ice maker/dispenser. Somethings are just better left to the professionals to provide for you rather than you take the leap and try to make your own homemade version. My mom works for "Prison enterprises" so she and I have encounters with inmates from prisons all across Louisiana pretty frequently and there are many, many, many inmates, anywhere from hunt, to kent, to angola, that have educated themselves after earning the trustee rank and being granted access to the prisons facilities.
2) In the bell hooks quote Malcom X relates freedom to education by expressing his views that with freedom and no education you cant do too much, but with education, you can always be free. He says that every student in his classroom should actively participate and use the time and opportunity provided for everything that its worth instead of just sitting there and doing just enough to get by and finding better things to do to help pass the time.
3) If I were ever locked in a cell for a certain amount of time I would probably choose math as my subject to pursue. After being released from prison my main goal would probably be trying to find some way to connect math/learning with a form of education for younger people in an attempt to help sway their ideas and actions. Maybe coming from a former inmate, that has gone through everything it would help influence their lives in a better direction. In order to reach these goals I would have to achieve some form of visual literacy so I could show and explain how the concept would work in the eyes of the students and make it easy for them to understand.

Discussion Questions #1
1) Allowing your world view to lead your thought process allows others to see your opinion of the world in your own writing.
2) She is right because the weight of a educators words weighs down on the learner no matter who it is. There again if the student believes that their world views are correct even with another persons explanation then that student has the right and the ability to maintain that view or idea.
(even after reading the pdf file and the questions I'm still really unsure of what the questions are asking but I gave my best attempt.)
